Date: Friday 18 March 2016
Venue: The Matterhorn, Powderhorn Chateau
Tickets: $14 ($10 concession)
Whether you’re a competitor or an audience member, come along for a great night of poetry. Throw away your preconceptions! The Poetry Slam, run by acclaimed slammers Carrie Rudzinski and Ken Arkind, is open to poets of all styles, not only those of you of a spoken-word inclination. You don’t need to memorise your poems – reading off the page is allowed, and even encouraged.
There are a few rules entrants will need to follow:
- Your poems must be no longer than 3 minutes and 10 seconds. (If longer, you will get points deducted.) Shorter is fine! There is no reason why you can’t win with a haiku.
- No props.
- No costumes.
- No nudity.
Prepare three poems – there will be up to three rounds, depending on the number of entrants.
Three to five judges will be picked from the audience, and they alone will decide who is the champion of the slam. The winner will get a great prize package, which is still to be finalised, and the glory of being the winner of the first ever Ruapehu Writers Festival Poetry Slam.
Sign up on the night. See you there!
